AlphaGenetic Testing Services is dedicated to providing comprehensive solutions for all of your drug testing needs, including
pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion -- non-DOT and DOT. All testing is done following strict
chain of custody.
We understand the ramifications that drug abuse can have on individuals, businesses, families and children. In addition
to the serious impact and often fatal outcome that drug use can cause, it also brings with it the financial, legal and
moral aspect.
Substance abuse can have a tremendous affect on an organization, whether by accidents, increased absences, lower productivity,
as well as the rise in frequency of worker's compensation claims. Statistics show that the average substance abuser
changes jobs two or three times each year which disrupts the workforce and creates extra costs for employers. Regardless
of the method, drug testing always produces a positive return on the investment. Studies have shown that a drug using
employee costs the employer approximately $7,000 per year. SAMHSA states that the national average of drug users
in company's is about 15 percent. Assuming your company is only 5 percent and you have 250 employees, which calculates
to 13 drug users on the payroll. If you conduct 300 drug tests with a cost of $45 per test, you will pay $13,500 per
year. Take into account that you may conduct fewer test and pay a lesser fee. However, we want to inflate these
numbers slightly to show regardless of your cost, you will still come out ahead. 13 drug users on your payroll will
cost you an estimated $91,000. Subtract the cost of drug tests ($13,500) from what the drug users are costing
you ($91,000) = $77,500 savings. This amounts to a 6-to-1 savings ratio -- for every dollar you spend on drug testing,
you save $6.
One additional concern is the employer who ONLY does pre-employment drug testing. Statistics show that the positivity
rates for random testing is about 50% higher than that of pre-employment drug testing. This means that if more employers
conducted random testing, they would probably uncover more drug users within their organization. So if an employer assumes
they are saving money by only performing pre-employment tests, they are under the wrong assumption. They are actually
costing their company money.
Also due to the concerns about workplace violence associated with substance abuse, we can offer employee background screening.
We can create a customized plan specifically designed to meet your company's needs. With our partnership with the nation's
leader in employee screening, we are able to assist you in identifying problems before they occur. Unfortunately, employers
cannot be sure of a potential employee's honesty. For more information, see BACKGROUND SCREENING.
We are committed to helping provide solutions to help decrease substance abuse, and thereby save lives, families, and
employers.
According to SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration), approximately 16 million Americans use
illegal drugs. From 1999 to 2001, the percentage increased from 6.3% to 7.1%. Nearly 7% of adults who are employed
full time and 9% of those employed part time use illegal drugs. The American Council of Drug Education determined that
more than 70% of substance abusers hold jobs. In addition, Americans consume 60% of the world's production of illegal
drugs. Approximately 23 million individuals use marijuana at least four times a week and 6 million regularly use cocaine.
Employers lose approximately $81 billion annually in lost productivity due to drug use in the workplace. Statistics
show that employees who abuse drugs or alcohol are 10 times more likely to miss work, 4 times as likely to be involved in
on-the-job accidents and 5 times more likely to file a workers' compensation claim. They are also responsible for 40%
of all industrial fatalities, 33% less productivity and generate health care costs that are three times as high as other co-workers.
